Designed around the surface

The space stays open.
The services stay close.

Outdoor ground boxes with industrial sockets place the connection below the paving. Open the cover to access the service panel; use the approved cable outlet on models designed for closed-lid operation.

Specify the service point

Bring power, data or water to a planned location in the landscape.

Use the correct cover position

Closed-lid operation is model-dependent. Type 5 operates open.

Keep the paving uninterrupted

The recessed cover accepts the selected infill for a discreet finish.

Applications

Where are in-ground power
units used in Saudi Arabia?

In-ground services suit planned public spaces with recurring power, data or water needs. Applications shown are use cases, not claimed project installations.

Boulevards & public spaces

Permanent service points for Saudi walkways, plazas and public-realm developments. Close the cover to return the surface to everyday use.

Project planning

In-ground power vs generators:
which fits a recurring Saudi event?

A permanently supplied in-ground unit can reduce repeated generator hire, local engine noise and exhaust. It needs a suitable upstream electrical supply. Connection cables and backup-power planning still matter.

Permanent infrastructure

In-ground service points

Designed into the venue for repeated use. The connection is already near the activity, helping reduce long temporary cable runs. Budget for the civil works, drainage and incoming supply.

Consider for recurring events and established public spaces.

Temporary supply

Event generators

Consider when permanent supply is unavailable or backup generation is needed. Assess hire, fuel, access, cable distribution and the event’s noise and exhaust requirements.

Compare whole-project costs; savings depend on use and site conditions.

In-ground unit, pop-up, bollard or indoor floor box?

The right choice depends on visibility, services, electrical demand and installation depth. Capacity and water options vary by manufacturer and model.

Project checklist

What should Saudi projects consider?

Confirm the complete installation with the MEP consultant and Kent Stainless before ordering.

Supply & socket configuration

Confirm the project voltage, frequency, phase, socket ratings and protective devices together. The brief's 230/400 V, 60 Hz requirement needs project and manufacturer confirmation.

Traffic & cover loading

Select the cover class for pedestrian areas or service-vehicle routes. Reference FACTA / BS EN 124 and the approved installation detail; do not assume a universal drive-over rating.

Drainage & installation depth

Coordinate a drain connection and the available excavation depth with the civil design. Allow for the cable ducts, paving build-up and maintenance access.

Saudi outdoor environments

For coastal projects in Jeddah or Khobar, confirm stainless-steel grade and finish. For exposed sites, confirm dust protection, drainage and maintenance requirements. IP67 is not an IP68 rating.

Project compliance

The consultant must confirm applicable SASO and SBC 401 requirements. No Saudi certification or project approval is claimed on this page.

Technical questions

Questions about
in-ground power units.

From Saudi BOQ terminology to cover loading, these are the details to settle before selecting a unit.

What is an in-ground power unit?

An in-ground power unit is a recessed stainless-steel box installed flush with paving. It provides industrial power sockets and, on selected models, data, audio or water connections. The cover sits flush when the unit is not in use.

Is this the same as an aircraft ground power unit (GPU)?

No. This page covers in-ground utility boxes for plazas, markets and events. Aircraft ground power units are a different equipment category used to supply parked aircraft.

Is an in-ground GPU the same as an industrial floor box?

Some Saudi project BOQs use GPU for an in-ground utility unit serving as a heavy-duty outdoor industrial floor box. The terms are not universal synonyms. Indoor industrial floor boxes may have different drainage, loading and installation requirements.

Where can I buy in-ground power units in Saudi Arabia?

Green Home Trading Est. in Riyadh supplies Kent Stainless in-ground power and water units for Saudi projects. Use the contact page to request a model specification, catalogue or quotation.

What sockets and services can be installed?

The range includes 16A to 125A power configurations, depending on the model. Single- and three-phase sockets, RJ45 data, XLR audio, fibre and video options must be selected for the project. IP67 refers to the specified electrical panels or sockets, not a blanket rating for the whole pit.

What is a telescopic in-ground power unit?

A telescopic unit rises above the paving when services are needed and returns below the recessed cover when it is not in use. Kent T6 is intended for large events, arenas, campuses and multi-operator locations where open-position operation is acceptable.

Can vehicles drive over the units?

The cover load class must match the installation location. Kent specifies covers to FACTA and BS EN 124 requirements. Confirm the selected load class and installation detail before placing a unit on a vehicle route.

Can the unit operate with the lid closed?

Several models support closed-lid use through a cable outlet. This does not apply to every model. Kent Type 5 is used with its lid open and the specified cover plates in place.

Can the cover match the surrounding paving?

Recessed covers can accept paving infill. Many outdoor models are designed for 60 mm paving; 80 mm or 100 mm options are available on some configurations. Confirm the paving build-up for the chosen model.

Is there an in-ground water unit?

Kent Type 9 is a recessed potable water unit. A tap connection can be specified to suit the site. The water supply and drainage must be coordinated with the project design.

Why consider in-ground power instead of event generators?

A permanently supplied in-ground unit can reduce repeated generator hire and local generator noise and exhaust. It still needs an upstream electrical supply and connection cables. It does not generate electricity or replace backup power.

What material are the units made from?

The range includes grade 316 / 316L stainless-steel construction. Confirm the material and finish for the selected unit, particularly for coastal or other demanding environments.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the model or application, cover size, available depth, socket ratings and phase, data or water requirements, project location, quantity and target delivery date. Add the BOQ or drawing reference when available.

Green Home is based in Riyadh and supplies projects across Saudi Arabia. Share the project location through the contact page so the team can confirm supply arrangements and timing for your requirement.

Different names. Start with the installation.

An in-ground power unit, ground socket box or outdoor industrial floor box describes a recessed service point in this context. A power pit or underfloor distributor is a broader term: confirm the fitted equipment. An event power box describes its use; a pop-up unit specifically describes a retractable mechanism.

In-ground utility selection answers

When should a project use an in-ground power or water unit?

An in-ground unit is used when a public realm, market, event space or hospitality area needs power, data or water access without permanent above-ground equipment. Confirm the service layout, cover size, installation depth, load class and site environment before selection.

Discuss your requirement

What is an in-ground power unit?

It is a recessed service box installed flush with paving or finished ground, providing selected power, data, audio, video or water connections for outdoor spaces.

Is an in-ground GPU the same as an aircraft ground power unit?

No. This range refers to in-ground utility boxes for public spaces, events and outdoor project services. Aircraft ground power equipment is a different product category.

Can an in-ground unit provide water as well as power?

Selected units can be configured for potable water or combined project services. The water supply, drainage and final connection layout must be coordinated with the site design.

Can vehicles drive over an in-ground unit?

The selected cover load class and installation detail must be appropriate for the location. Confirm this specifically before placing a unit on a vehicle route.

What is needed for an in-ground unit quotation?

Provide the application, services required, socket ratings, cover size, available depth, paving build-up, location, quantity and drawing or BOQ reference.
